They have tusks up to nine feet long, which in ancient times were sold as unicorn horns and were worth many times their weight in gold. While resting on their backs, they often turn their heads so that their tusks stick straight up. Their mouths are set in a permanent smile. And as recently discovered, they have some 10 million exposed nerve endings on the end of their tusks, making them perhaps the most unique sensory organs known to man. What animal is this? I read this article earlier. I was particularly intrigued by the comment about male narwhals rubbing each other's horns for... pleasure?
