These are students from Kangding Middle School having a basketball competition. The one in yellow clothing is the leader of the basketball team. His name is Li Xiao Li. He is in Senior grade 2, class 1. Students at Kangding play basketball together every afternoon, and there are often competitions between classes after school. The competitions are very fun to watch. When they grow up they will certainly all become very fine athletes, and bring pride to the country. These are Khampa heroes.

These kids are in Junior grade 3, class 3. They are sleeping. They are very tired. Why? Because they just finished a P.E. examination. They all did very well. Students in Junior grade 3 are often tired because they have too much homework. They use their lunch break to lay on the grass and sleep like logs. They look very funny while asleep, don't they? This is the life of a Junior grade 3 student.

This is a picture of Yixi Zhouga eating "fang bian mian." Fang bian mian translates literally to "convenient noodles." It is what you in the United States call "ramen." Do you like to eat it? If you eat too much, you'll get sick and you'll need to see the doctor. It's not very good for your stomach because the ingredients include many preservatives. Fang bian mian is very tasty, and you can eat it very quickly. Many students choose to eat fang bian mian instead of the food at the cafeteria, because they are tired of cafeteria food. Fang bian mian is also bad for the environment because the containers are made of styrofoam and are disposable. So, when you eat fang bian mian, don't throw it on the ground, you must throw it in the trash can.

Liu Hai Bo says: "When you finish eating fang bian mian, don't throw the container around! You must throw it in the trash can, or you will destroy the environment!"

Here, Liu Hai Bo is being punished. In China we call this "fazhan." Whenever students get teachers angry, the teachers tell them to get out of the room. Sometimes students will be late for class, or during class they won't listen to the teacher, and then the teacher will punish them. There are some students who are near sighted and can't see the blackboard very well. Then, if they answer a question wrong, the teachers punish them. This isn't very fair, but sometimes the teachers just don't know that their students are near sighted and think they're being naughty.

It's not a very good feeling to have to fazhan because then other students laugh at you. The teachers also think less of you, and think that you are not a good student. It puts a lot pressure and shame on your heart, and makes you very nervous. We don't think fazhan is a very good form of punishment. A better way would be for teachers to just tell students what they would or would not like them to do. Talking about problems face to face seems like a better way to solve them.

This picture is captioned, "Please let me out!" They're like starving children! They want to eat! Their actions are very funny, aren't they?

At Kangding Middle School we are not allowed to leave the campus. At lunchtime and in the evening we can only eat on campus. We have some different options for food, including bread, ice cream, cake, fan bian mian, vegetables, rice, meat, etc.

The rule about not leaving campus is meant to protect the safety of the students. There are many students who live in Kangding town. There are many cars, so it's not very safe for students to be walking around on the street. In the past there have been some students who have been hit by cars. So the school uses the policy of the closed campus to protect the lives of the students.

Look at these soldiers all lined up in a perfect row. The safety of the country depends on them. Right now they are at the school studying and preparing to take exams for military school. This will expand their talent, and improve the overall excellence of the country's military.

The man standing to the left of the picture is their officer. He seems to be giving them orders. You can see the faces of the soldiers. They look very serious.

No Smoking! The rules of the Middle School do not allow students to smoke in school. However, there are a few students who don't follow the rules, and they often smoke in the corner of the school. In doing so they are disobeying school rules. Smoking is bad for your health, and I hope that these students can correct their bad habits and listen to the school rules.

His name is Chen Jian Hua, and he is one of the best guards at Kangding Middle School. Every morning, when the students are sleeping, he must get up and look around the school to make sure everything is all right. He is very cool. In life he deals with everything without any selfishness. We all like him very much.
