KMS Student Courtship

Illustration by Liu Jie (Junior grade 1, class 2)

Students lives are like flowers--in the rainy season, there are an infinite number of colors! In our lives at school, our thoughts are always brimming over with wonder at the strange world around us. We are especially puzzled when we are reading love novels. In the novels, the leading lady is always ecstatic over a new lover that is with her constantly. So when we relate to these leading ladies, the flavor of love slowly changes from sour to sweet.

We begin to wonder, is love really as sweet as in the stories? But the ideas of our teachers and parents are different--they think these ideas are unhealthy. They feel that we're too young to have girlfriends or boyfriends, and that if we did, we would start going out and doing all the crazy things we think about in a day.

But, we feel that these things we wonder about aren't wrong. The way that we see love is different, but our parents and teachers don't understand us! They say we can't think for ourselves, that we don't know what we're doing. We often say, "understanding is necessary to live." Maybe this is just the way it is.

So, I think middle school students thinking about love isn't necessarily wrong. But it depends on what you choose--as long as we follow our hearts and don't go beyond our own personal boundaries, it's okay!
