Courage

[NOTE: The following speech was originally delivered by Zhang Kun at the Kangding Middle School English Talent Show on June 7, 2002. At the Talent Show, Zhang Kun's speech performance was awarded 2nd Place for Most Moving Program. ]

Hello everyone. First of all, I'm so glad to be able to stand here to give you my speech. Some of you may remember the English Speech Competition one month ago. I joined it, but I failed, because I forgot what I wanted to say. Of course, this made me very sad. Today, I stand here again, the same place, and the same person. And today, I am also giving you a speech. I only want to prove that I can do it. I think it's a matter of courage.

In my opinion, courage is the belief of our life. If you have it, you'll fine the path to success. When you do things, you should believe in yourself and always try your best. If you fail, don't lose heart. Failure is not terrible. Don't escape. You must face reality. At the same time, you should smooth away every difficulty. Don't let one failure discourage you! Try again. Success is waiting for you. Where you drop down, you should stand up.

On June 4th, the Chinese football team was defeated by Costa Rica by two goals in the FIFA World Cup. But there are also many chances for them. Chinese people never abandon things rashly. We hope that they can pluck up their courage to make a good result in the end.

In a word, when you fail, courage is the best friend you can have. It can help you, and then you can tell yourself: "I'm the best one. I never say die. I believe I can do it." Remember this phrase: Success always favors the brave man.
