The Necklace
by Senior grade 1, class 2

The scene is a park in Paris, 1870. Jeanne came across Mathilde, and Mathilde recognized Jeanne as her good friend from ten years before. Ten years ago, Mathilde had come to Jeanne's house to borrow a diamond necklace of Jeanne's. That night, Mathilde lost the necklace and had to buy a new one as a replacement for Jeanne. Here she is telling Jeanne that it took her ten years to pay back the money she had borrowed to pay for the replacement necklace.

Mathilde's husband works in a government office. One day, he was invited to a ball at the palace. He was the only person in his office who was invited, so he was very happy, and he went home to tell his wife at once.
When he got home, his wife was doing some housework. He embraced her and quickly told her the wonderful news. After hearing about the ball, Mathilde jumped up and shouted, "Oh, I can't believe it! The ball at the palace, the ball at the palace. Oh dear, my dear Pierre!"

Mathilde has gone to Jeanne's house, because she is going to take part in the ball. She needs some jewelry to wear, but she is very poor, so she borrowed some from her good friend, Jeanne. In Jeanne's home, Jeanne brought out all her jewelry to show Mathilde, and told Mathilde she could borrow anything she wanted. Mathilde chose a lovely diamond necklace with a big blue stone in the center. Mathilde thanks Jeanne very much.

This is a group picture of our class--Senior grade 1, class 2. It took us a long time to practice the play and prepare for the performance. Before the show, we borrowed some beautiful clothes and bought other things we needed for the play. Then, we made ourselves up and dressed up in the dresses and tuxedoes. We hoped that we would be the winner.
