A Brief Introduction to
Kangding Middle School, founded in 1939, was the first of the key middle schools in Sichuan Province. The school lies at the southern foot of Paoma (Running Horse) Mountain and by the bank of the Zeduo River, and covers an area of 33,725 square meters. At the foot of the mountains and beside the stream, our campus has a very pleasant environment. In the school, there are twenty-eight classes with more than 1,400 students, 60% of whom are Tibetan. The school offers boarding classes for minority students and excellent classes in both the Junior and Senior schools and possesses advanced teaching equipment; there are classrooms with electronic audiovisual aids, computers, multi-media tools, etc. As the style of teaching is strict, the management scientific, and the work ethic strong, Kangding Middle School is really an ideal place for learning and teaching. For years the achievements of graduates from both the Junior and Senior schools have ranked among the top in the prefecture. Thus, Chen Zhi Li, the head of China's Ministry of Education, wrote the following words of appreciation about Kangding Middle School: "The bright pearl of the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; the cradle of the extraordinarily able people of Tibetan areas." There are more than 140 teaching and administrative staff, including twenty-six veteran teachers and fifty-five novice teachers. Teachers take student enhancement as their highest goal; they plough and weed assiduously in bringing the students up to become highly disciplined people with fine qualities, specialties, and competitiveness. We are geared to the needs of all the students and determined to continue working to make sure that Kangding Middle School will always be the first-rate middle school in the multi-ethnic areas of the province. The State Educational Commission and the State Minority Affairs Commission conferred the national title of "Excellence in Multi-Ethnic Education" on Kangding Middle School, which was the first key middle school in Sichuan to gain such high recognition. At present we are enthusiastically carrying out quality education and fostering the bringing forth of new ideas.
