Starry Sky I like nights with moonlight. I like the heavens even more, when the stars in the sky are twinkling. Before, in my hometown, on the autumn nights I would go out onto the balcony and fan myself. I would watch the trails of stars in the sky, shining so brightly, and they would make me forget everything else. I was as if I was in my mother's embrace. At night I would open the door and would see the beautiful and peaceful sky. Below me there was a garden, above me the starry sky. I would feel the pull of the stars and the light of the stars very strongly. Sometimes I would take out a star chart and try to learn the different constellations. Looking at the stars, I would feel almost like my eyes were blinking, or that the stars were telling me a secret. It made me forget all my other cares. When the stars saw my happy face, they fell asleep, and I thought of when I was young, and I slept in my mother's embrace. ____________ See the original, written in Tibetan by Chao Jing (Junior grade 1, class 2) Translated into English by Si Lang Yi Xi (Junior grade 1, class 1) and Amy Chen See this story in Chinese, translated by Chao Jing |
