The Magical and Beautiful Wuxu Lake

Wuxu Lake lies in the northwestern part of Jiulong County. "Wuxu" means "a sunny place to play" in Tibetan. It is 25 kilometers away from the town of Jiulong and 4 kilometers from Tonggu village, altitude 3600 meters. Starting from the town of Jiulong, you pass the Sha Pu Zhi neighborhood, San Dao bridge, Wuxu village, and then you arrive at Wuxu Lake. On both sides of the road on the way to Wuxu Lake, there are brightly-colored wildflowers and large shade trees, all very beautiful. Once you arrive there, you'll see that Wuxu Lake is rectangular, 1.2 kilometers long, 0.7 kilometers wide, and has a surface area of 0.7 square kilometers. To the North and South are two jagged-peaked mountains. To the West is the snow-covered Lang Guze Mountain. To the southeast are the "Twelve Sister Peaks."

Wuxu Lake is beautiful all year round, mainly because of the ancient forests that surround it. In the forests, there are mainly fir, dragon spruce, and "qing gong" trees. There are also azalea, birch, and willow trees. They comprise the most striking aspect of this forest: GREEN. There are many animals in Wuxu Lake's surrounding forests, as well as living in the lake itself. These animals live happily in those green mountains and clear waters.

Around Wuxu Lake, there are also hot springs, waterfalls, volcanic caves, and more. There are more than ten well-known scenic spots in the area.

To protect this beautiful place, Jiulong County designated it as a natural preservation site. In 1986, the People's Congress Standing Committee declared that every June 4th (by the lunar calendar) is Jiulong's "You Hai Festival," a day to visit the lake.
