My Hometown -- Danba
In the south of our country, there is a small city. There are many mountains around the city, and also a very beautiful river. It is a lovely place, and there are many ancient stories and legends that have their birthplace here. This is my hometown--Danba. The scenery here is very fantastic and beautiful. To make Danba, Mother Nature first used her knife to cut open the great mountains and valleys. She let the rivers flow out from between the mountains, and used her fingers to shape these mountains. The greatest of these peaks is called "Moerduo." The cap of Moerduo is always white with snow, and down the sides of the mountain there grows a green forest of trees. The mountain looks as though it is wearing a hat.
At the foot of Moerduo Mountain there stands a great tower surrounded on all sides by many waving flags. The people of Danba often burn incense from these towers. If you climb to top of the towers you can also see many oil lamps, and these lamps look like twinkling stars in the night sky. Nature is like a sculptor, and she made many fantastic things with the nature of Danba. She used her tools to cut natural towers into the sides of the mountains. These towers grow a bit higher every year. If you go near the road, you can also see many caves. There are many natural gods in the caves. Here, the mountains and the waters are beautiful, and the people who live here are very kind to travelers. If you go to Danba, the people will welcome you warmly. They will serve you some butter tea or a cup of wine. They will bring you warm food, and they will dance and sing for you. My hometown is like a painting in my heart. ____________ See the original, written in Chinese by Li Pong (Senior grade 2, class 2) Translated into English by Li Pong and Amy Chen See this page in Tibetan |
